Gakpo 'open to Spurs move' as Liverpool's £70m valuation emerges

Cody Gakpo is reportedly willing to consider a move to Tottenham this summer, even though Liverpool have given no indication whatsoever that they are prepared to let him leave.

Spurs are understood to be interested in the Netherlands international, but no formal approach has been made to Liverpool and no talks between the clubs have taken place. For now this is at the exploratory stage — conversations with the player's representatives rather than negotiations with the selling club.

Liverpool's position

From Anfield's side, the answer is straightforward. Liverpool have no plans to sell Gakpo while they are still hunting a replacement for Mohamed Salah, and losing another senior attacker mid-window would only deepen the problem they are trying to fix.

Bradley Barcola remains the primary target, with Paris Saint-Germain holding firm on a valuation around the £145m mark. Those talks are difficult enough without a second front opening up in the same part of the pitch.

An asking price of roughly £70m has been floated for Gakpo, which reads less like an invitation and more like a deterrent. Whether Liverpool would even engage at that figure is another matter entirely.

Why Spurs want him

Roberto De Zerbi has already spent around £237m on six signings this summer and has said publicly that Tottenham's business is only about 60 per cent complete. A winger — and possibly another striker — is still on the list.

Gakpo fits that brief neatly: a left-sided forward who can also lead the line as a No 9, which is exactly the kind of dual profile De Zerbi likes. Spurs also retain a long-standing interest in Manchester City's Savinho, who wants more regular starts.

None of that changes the basic arithmetic at Anfield. Until a Salah replacement is through the door, Gakpo is not going anywhere.
